NICU baby

Chelsea – A Donor Story

Mom and baby

My son was a NICU baby and breastfeeding him gave me a feeling of control in an out-of-control situation. I breastfed him for 20 months and after our journey ended, I found out about milk banks. I was hoping to be able to donate milk one day. When my daughter was born, donating milk that I pumped was cathartic. She wasn’t in the NICU, but the pumped milk I donated was helping babies and families there. I hope the breastmilk being provided to babies in the NICU gives that same comfort to parents that I felt when I was a NICU mom.
