23 May Gabriella – A Recipient Story
Our daughter Gabriella was born at 32 weeks, 3 lbs, 2 oz. She has multiple congenital anomalies and has had seven total surgeries in the first 15 months. She has impaired feeding and swallowing issues, aided by a g-tube. She also has acid reflux and a very sensitive stomach. I pumped as long as I could and built a decent stash. But as Gabriella’s caloric needs increased, the stash started to dwindle. Due to her feeding tube and health needs, I couldn’t keep up with pumping at home.
Finding a formula that worked for her sensitive stomach was a nightmare! There are so many options out there. They were all making her sick. I even tried some European brands and toddler formulas (against her doctor’s recommendations). To top it off, this was happening during the start of our nation’s formula shortage. I spent a few nights crying alone, as I desperately tried to get my supply back. I cannot thank the Mid-Atlantic Mothers’ Milk Bank enough for supplying milk for our daughter. Gabriella is growing (on the curve!) and thriving. To all of the mom’s who donate to the milk bank, you are my hero! It’s bittersweet seeing our milk journey come to an end. I hope to one day be able to donate back to the milk bank. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
